A couple from Kisumu has been arrested for giving their four-year-old child alcohol.

A couple is set to face charges of negligence on Monday after their four-year-old son was found to have been given alcohol. The arrest was made following concerns raised by neighbors in Kisumu Central sub-County who informed the local Children’s department and police after a video of the child in a drunken state was circulated on social media.
The child was rescued and taken to a safe house. The head of the children’s department, Ms Eve Anam, intervened after being alerted and sent an officer to investigate.
Children's rights activist Ms Hellen Tuli Apiyo said the woman had been giving the child alcohol for a long time, but had not been reported. The couple, held at Kondele Police Station, will be charged with negligence at the Winam Magistrate’s Court.
